Executive Summary

This review consolidates the member feedback collected at the conclusion of the cricket season alongside the operational, financial, and logistical realities outlined by the management committee.

The season was defined by a remarkable display of resilience, highlighted by the club successfully fulfilling its league fixtures. This challenge was met by a highly successful integration of youth into senior cricket, fostering a strong "one club" family atmosphere. Moving forward, the club’s primary focus will pivot toward injecting rigorous structure into senior training, managing facilities budgets, and refining communication channels to ease selection bottlenecks.

? Key Achievements (What Went Well)

1. Youth Integration & Player Development

• Senior Pathway: The club successfully established a visible map for junior progression. Youngsters were integrated across all senior sides, including debut opportunities in the 1st XI.
• Supportive Environment: Senior players earned widespread praise for completely backing, welcoming, and mentoring the juniors, which has directly driven youth loyalty and retention.
• Youth Giving Back: Older juniors actively stepped up to help coach and support the younger age categories, reinforcing the club's internal development loop.

2. Culture & Community Spirit

• "One Club" Ethos: Respondents overwhelmingly noted the return of a genuine "family feel" and collective team pride, where players rallied together to share match-day responsibilities.
• Inclusivity: New players with zero prior cricketing experience (e.g., Marj) felt instantly welcomed and integrated into both boys' and girls' setups.

3. Operational & Social Innovations

• Pizza Nights: Introduced to replace traditional teas, these nights were a major commercial and social triumph. They successfully drove bar revenue and served as an effective incentive for players to keep match fees up to date.
• Digital Transitions: The transition to a cashless club environment and the utilization of the Pitchero platform for match organization were highly rated for their efficiency.
• Winter & Infrastructure Programs: The Girls and Senior indoor winter leagues, alongside structured indoor nets, provided highly effective preparation.

⚠️ Challenges & Structural Realities (What Didn't Go Well)

1. Training Rigour & Resource Constraints

• Nets Structure: Senior nets frequently devolved into a "driving range" format. Older juniors entering adult cricket struggled due to a distinct lack of structured drills, targeted coaching, and consistent senior involvement.
• Coaching Deficits: There was insufficient senior attendance at mid-week training to assist with technical feedback or operate the bowling machine.

2. League Mismatches & Performance

• Under-13s League Placement: The U13s were entered into an inappropriate league tier and restricted by tennis-ball training, resulting in immediate player drop-outs and a collapse in team confidence.
• On-Field Results: Senior performances suffered from batting instability, poor squad availability, and a general lack of team continuity on Saturdays.

3. Financial & Logistical Hard Truths

• Cricket Teas: Reintroducing traditional teas is entirely prohibitive. Pre-COVID costs hit £75 per match via volunteer labour; matching this today would force match fees up to in excess of £15 per game to break even.
• Overseas Player Constraints: Hiring an overseas player is financially unviable at the 1st XI's current league tier. Historical data also reveals that previous overseas players provided negligible returns regarding junior coaching engagement.
• Selection & Player Habits: While early team announcements (Tuesday/Wednesday) are highly desirable, player response times are late due to modern work/social habits. Captains are consistently forced into late selections and shuffling players upward due to last-minute drop-outs.

The following framework outlines how member recommendations have been reconciled with definitive committee decisions:

Coaching & Practice: Introduce structured nets, individual U15 work, and senior-led mentorship clinics.
? In Progress: Actively seeking an experienced coach to oversee senior nets. Senior players will be mandated to provide active coaching input.

Overseas Player: Hire a young overseas professional to boost youth coaching capacity.
? Noted: Ruled out due to prohibitive costs and poor historical junior interaction.

Player Recognition: Formally acknowledge James Maddock for his exceptional efforts this season.
? Complete: Officially awarded the President's/Chairman's Outstanding Contribution Award.

League & Youth: Fix the U13 league mismatch and rebuild player confidence.
? Resolved: U13s removed from that tier for the upcoming year; awaiting wider league restructures to assist senior teams.

Match Day Teas: Return to traditional volunteer or subsidized cricket teas.
? Noted: Financially unviable. Pizza nights are locked in to continue as the official social and fee-collection alternative.

Presentation Night: Split into separate Junior/Senior dates or extend hours to fix club overcrowding.
? Modified: Event will remain a joint night to preserve the "one club ethos" and prevent committee burnout. However, the schedule is being reworked as a "work in progress" to create a smoother, big finale.

Team Selection: Shift team announcements earlier in the week (Tuesday/Wednesday night).
? Targeted: Captains instructed to aim for earlier selection, but success is entirely dependent on players updating their availability on time.

Fixtures & Season: Extend the season length and arrange more outdoor matches.
? Modified: Total calendar length is rigidly locked by league dates and weather. However, the committee will actively seek additional friendly fixtures specifically for the 3rd XI.

Club Facilities: Replace the dilapidated outdoor seating and benches.
? Budgeted: Formally added to the financial discussion list for next season’s infrastructure budget.

? Next Steps for Club Management

1. Winter Net Preparation: Finalise the brief and budget allocation for the external coach search before winter nets commence.
2. Captains' Briefing: Meet with senior captains to establish strict expectations regarding mid-week junior mentoring, setting up "Get Set" weekends, and enforcing earlier player availability cut-offs.
3. Budget Finalisation: Formally sign off on the grounds budget allocation for outdoor benches and the expanded pizza night schedule.
