In a momentous debut, the girls took on Oakmere Cricket Club in what was not only their inaugural fixture but also a wonderful celebration of grassroots sport and determination.
After two earlier attempts to get a match underway this season were unfortunately scuppered—once by severe traffic and another due to a lack of opposition players—the girls were understandably disheartened. But tonight, their patience and perseverance were rewarded.
And what a night it was!
Nine enthusiastic and determined young cricketers took to the field, showcasing all the hard work they’ve put in during training. They bowled with accuracy, fielded with energy and awareness, and batted with confidence, working as a cohesive, spirited unit throughout the game. Their performance was a testament to their growing skills, teamwork, and sheer love of the game.
NCC emerged victorious with an impressive total of 318 runs to Oakmere’s 232, but beyond the numbers, it was the spirit and sportsmanship on display that truly stole the show.
A big shoutout to Oakmere Cricket Club, whose girls, though a newly formed side, brought incredible enthusiasm, joy, and promise to the pitch. It was a pleasure to host such a warm and talented group, and we look forward to many more matches in the future.
Special thanks go to Emma Dent, the girls’ manager, whose hard work and dedication made this night possible. Her tireless efforts in organising, coaching, and championing the team are an inspiration to all.
NCC now proudly stands with 3 senior men’s teams, 4 junior teams, a thriving ladies’ softball side, and now our fantastic new girls’ team. A huge thank you to everyone—volunteers, coaches, parents, and players—who make achievements like this possible.
Well done, girls! A landmark night that we’ll never forget.
